Movie-goers will be in for an exceptional treat this weekend as for the first time in the history of Sri Lankan cinema, the US summer blockbuster of the year, epic action-adventure film ‘Battleship,’ will debut on 14 April, over a month ahead of its American premiere scheduled for 18 May.

Imported by Liberty Cinemas Ltd., the film will be screened at the Majestic Cinema and Liberty Lite over the upcoming weekend.

Peter Berg produces and directs ‘Battleship,’ an epic-scaled action-adventure that unfolds across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force.  Based on Hasbro’s classic naval combat game, ‘Battleship’ stars Taylor Kitsch as Lt. Alex Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones; Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, a physical therapist and Hopper’s fiancée; Alexander Skarsgård as Hopper’s older brother, Stone, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson; Rihanna as Petty Officer Raikes, Hopper’s crewmate and a weapons specialist on the USS John Paul Jones; and international superstar Liam Neeson as Hopper and Stone’s superior (and Sam’s father), Admiral Shane.

The film was originally planned to be released in 2011, but was rescheduled to 11 April 2012 in U.K. and 18 May 2012 in US. The film’s world premiere was held in Tokyo, Japan on 5 April 2012.
