The Lanka Sama Samaja Party headed by Senior Minister Tissa Vitarana has decided to abstain when the resolution for impeachment against Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake comes up for a vote in Parliament, most likely at the end of this week.
The decision was reached following the Party’s Central Committee meeting last evening.
Several other parties belonging to the Old Left, including the Communist Party and the Democratic Left Front, are also likely to refrain from voting in support of the impeachment of the Chief Justice.
