Mahinda invites chief ministers to Cabinet; Wigneswaran sends regrets

By Dharisha Bastians President Mahinda Rajapaksa has invited all provincial chief ministers to attend this week’s Cabinet briefing, but Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran says he has already sent his regrets. All chief ministers were invited to the cabinet meeting on Thursday (17), Presidential Spokesman Mohan Samaranayake told Daily FT. Chief Minister Wigneswaran, who recently accused the President of having broken another promise to the NPC by reappointing ex-Military Governor G.A. Chandrasiri after his term expired last weekend, said he would not be attending the meeting. “I was invited yes, but I sent a regret note since I had fixed local matters already and could not avoid them,” Wigneswaran told Daily FT.
