The incumbent’s re-election campaign has delayed the launch of President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s manifesto at least until Christmas, a spokesman from his office confirmed yesterday.
Mahinda Rajapaksa’s third manifesto for a presidential contest, entitled ‘Thun Kal Dekma (Vision for all time)’ was to be released at the BMICH at the auspicious time of 11:55 a.m. today.
President Rajapaksa’s policy statement for the 8 January 2015 election is likely to be launched on Christmas Day or the day after, 26 December, Government sources said.
The manifesto was also expected to address constitutional reform and good governance, now key issues of the common opposition platform. However, Presidential Spokesman Mohan Samaranayake told Daily FT the launch had been delayed. He declined to provide details about the delay.
Samaranayake insisted no date had been decided for the release of the manifesto.
If the President’s manifesto is not released until Christmas, the public will only be able to view the policy document after postal voting is completed on 24 December. (DB)
