Maldivian Airlines starts new route from Gan Island to Colombo

Maldivian Airlines, the National Carrier of the Republic of Maldives, owned and operated by Island Aviation Services Ltd. (IAS) is commencing new routes with direct flight to Colombo from Male and Gan Island, effective 7 August 2012.
The new routes from Gan Island and Male to Colombo are mainly to target the medical tourism, business segment and the leisure market.
With direct flights, the airline is expecting an increase in the number of tourist arrivals to Colombo as well as to the Maldives.
Maldivian flights will operate between Gan Island and Colombo from 7 August 2013. The twice-weekly frequency would operate from Colombo to Gan on Mondays and to Male on Fridays. The flights to Colombo will be operated using an airbus A320 aircraft with a capacity of 14 business class and 138 economy class seats.
Maldivian has been providing air transportation between Male International Airport in the Maldives and the domestic airports in the country increasing frequencies to cater for the domestic demand every year and in turn increasing its fleet.
In 2008, Maldivian expanded its operations beyond Maldives to Trivandrum, India and since the addition of its A320 into its fleet; Maldivian has added Chennai, India, Dhaka, Bangladesh and Chongqing, China to its network.
The main aim of the airline is for customers to be able to have a ‘Maldivian Experience’ thousands of feet in the sky.
Maldivian is represented in Sri Lanka by Hemas Aviation Ltd., a subsidiary of Hemas Group and a member of the Hemas Transportation sector, which is the largest aviation services company in Sri Lanka. Hemas has been representing Maldivian Airlines since December 2000.
