Malraj new DG at Tourism Development Authority

Top tourism professional Malraj B.Kiriella has been appointed as the new Director General of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority by Minister of Tourism and Sports Navin Dissanayake. Kiriella has over 28 years of work experience in travel and tourism by working in both public and private sectors in the country. He worked as the Director Research and International Relations and Standards and Quality Assurance of Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority. Further he has served as the Acting Managing Director of Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau. He also held positions as the Director Research and International Relations, Director Marketing and the Director Corporate Services of the Sri Lanka Tourist Board. Prior to joining the Board he has worked at the Sri Lankan Airlines. Kiriella has multidisciplinary academic and professional qualifications. He read his both Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Economics from the University of Colombo. He too holds Bachelor of Laws Degree from the Open University of Sri Lanka. He is a Chartered Marketer and also an Attorney at Law by profession. He is a Fellow of both the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), UK and the Chartered Marketing Institute (CMI), UK. Further he has obtained professional qualifications in the areas of management accountancy, project management, diplomacy and international affairs management, tourism and research from the leading institutions in Sri Lanka and in overseas. He was awarded the Fellowship in International Affairs Management by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) in 2004. He also holds a UNWTO Practicum Diploma awarded by the United Nations World Tourism Organization. He was a Visiting Research Fellow in Tourism at the George Washington University, USA in 2002. Kiriella is currently holding key positions in some professional associations and he is the Vice President of the Chartered Management Institute UK Sri Lanka Branch and also a Vice President of Sri Lanka Economic Association. He heads the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Market Interest Group for Leisure since 2008.
