Massive draw for New Year’s Eve bashes

  • Popular demand sparks two main dinner dances at sold out Cinnamon Grand

Tonight’s New Year’s Eve celebrations are tipped to be most expensive as well as entertaining in line with post-war optimism and revival in the country.

The level of demand and festive air is manifested by the unprecedented development of city’s flagship hotel Cinnamon Grand having to accommodate two main dinner dances in addition to bashes in several of its other outlets. Over 2,500 guests are expected to throng Cinnamon Grand tonight.

Its main attraction at Oak Room featuring Xperiments and Heat is sold out despite the most expensive price tag of Rs. 15,000 per person. Demand has forced Cinnamon Grand to hold another dance at its Atrium Lobby with tickets priced at Rs. 10,000 with the do there featuring Black Velvet and DJ music. Its other fares include gala dinner buffet with entertainment at Taprobane with first sitting from 7 p.m to 9 p.m priced at Rs. 4,500 per head and second sitting from 9.30 pm onwards at Rs. 5,500.  Entrance to the Pool Party is included in the second sitting while 1st sitting guests can pay Rs. 1000 as an entrance fee. Cheers Pub celebrations with DJ music is priced at Rs. 3,000 per head. Echo’s Italian buffet offers tickets at Rs. 4000. Tao’s fusion 6 course set menu fare priced at Rs. 4,000 per head whilst Lagoon’s spread is priced at Rs. 6,000 per head. Cinnamon Grand’s South Indian buffet at Chutneys is priced at Rs. 3000.

Iconic Mt. Lavinia Hotel’s bash is priced at Rs. 14,000 with a big spread and music from Misty and DJ Kapila.

Cinnamon Lakeside Kings Court Ballroom bash is valued Rs. 10,000 per head with performance by Flame with DJ Udi and guest star Judy. At Seven Degrees North celebrations are priced at Rs. 6,000 per head with music by Soul Quest and DJ Upul.

The Library will feature DJ Stephen with access for members priced at Rs. 6,000 and Rs. 7,000 for guests of members. The Dining Room fare is at Rs. 4,100 per head between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. and Rs. 4,500 after 9.30 p.m.

Ceylon Continental’s New Year’s Eve titled “Continental Flight 2011” is priced at between Rs. 8,000 and Rs. 6,000 providing dinner, as well as breakfast among other benefits. Music will be by Doctor and Kings and DJ Music from Eugene, Sonali flown in from Australia and a Belly Dance act.

Galadari’s main even at its Grand Ballroom featuring Mirage with Cathy Menezes, guest spot by Amazing Grace and Effex Djays is priced at Rs. 8,000 per head. Lobby Dinner Dance Live Music by Heart N’ Soul – is priced at Rs. 3,850 per head.

Taj Samudra is throwing a lavish seven course dinner at The Steak and Grill House priced at Rs. 14,500 per person. A trio of celebrations at Latitude at Taj is priced at Rs. 5,500 per head with music by Rebirth and DJ s Rajesh and Hasith at the Mix Bar and Poolside.

Heritage Galle Face Hotel’s bash at the outdoor Patio featuring New York Fashion TV models with DJ music is priced at Rs. 11,000 per head whilst the Jubilee Hall fare is priced at Rs. 8,000 per head and features Golden Chimes with Mariazelle. It is learnt that over 2,000 mostly youth have bought tickets for the Patio event.

Ramada Colombo’s Blast Thru 2010 is priced at Rs. 8,500 per head with Gypsies and Black providing the entertainment.  Hilton Residencies New year’s eve is titled Bond’s Night whilst The Sovereign at Jayawardenapura Mawatha is having its do with Band Vision Trio with Damayantha along with DJ Music and Mariazelle doing a guest spot and ticket inclusive of dinner is priced at Rs. 2,900 per head.

New kid in entertainment business, Jetliner Ship dinner and DJ Music from DJ’s specially flown from London and Istanbul is priced at Rs. 9,000 per person.
