The Media Ministry yesterday dismissed the notion that Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa’s new appointment as Minister of Petroleum Resources had anything to do with him heading the Parliamentary Select Committee that probed the impeachment motion against ousted Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake.
Secretary to the Media Ministry Charitha Herath told the Daily FT that Minister Yapa had held ministerial portfolios since 2000 and denied that the impeachment process motivated the reshuffle of portfolios in any way.
The Ministry also claimed that Monitoring MPs do not enjoy ministerial rank.
