Sampath Bank, ranked among the top-tier private banks in the country, has announced the appointment of Nanda Fernando as its new Managing Director with effect from today.
Having played a pivotal role at Sampath Bank since the year of its inception, Fernando served in the capacity of Chief Operating Officer, prior to this appointment.
With a banking career that spans 35 years, he also function as a Director of SC Securities Ltd., which is a subsidiary of the Sampath Group of Companies.
Havingdynamically contributed to the strengthening of Sampath Bank for almost 29 years, his appointment as the new Managing Director will see the application of multidisciplinary competencies to further establish the bank as a benchmark financial institution in Sri Lanka.
Fernando aims to strengthenSampath Bank’s values, stakeholder presence and business objectives as the financial conglomerate looks towards further expansion and growth in the country.
During his illustrious career, Fernando has been responsible for driving multipleaspects of the bank and has supported transactional banking covering retail and corporate banking, among many other key growth areas.
An Associate member of the Institute of Bankers in Sri Lanka, he possesses a Master’s Degree in Business Administration specialising in Marketing. He is also a qualified Four Bead Leader Trainer and a past District Commissioner of the Sri Lanka Scouts’ Association. He is a product of S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia and currently functions as the Group Advisor to the Group Committee of his alma mater.
