The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka in a statement congratulated the President, Prime Minter and all the Parliamentarians for getting the 19th Amendment passed despite the many obstacles and difficulties encountered on the way.
The Chamber welcomed the enactment of the 19th Amendment which puts Sri Lanka on the right road to democracy and signal the return of meaningful Parliamentary democracy. “For a President who had just completed 100 days in office, it is an achievement of the highest order where no other leaders were able to achieve for over three decades!” it added.
The National Chamber being one of the pioneering chambers in the country carrying on a service to the national business community in Sri Lanka for over 65 years is indeed proud of the momentous occasion of the passing of the much-awaited and much-debated 19th Amendment to the Constitution.
“The 19th Amendment is a victory for all communities and it will benefit not only the present generation but also the generations to come. Sri Lankans can now look forward for a vibrant period of democracy and good governance under the new enactment. Congratulations to the Government once again,” it concluded.
