The Ministry of Agriculture is to hold a “National Farmers Week” in Vavuniya bringing together farmers from all over the island to meet and take part in programmes planned by the Ministry.

This event is to take place during the first week of August. During the National Farmers Week a National Agriculture exhibition is also to be organised depicting the advancements made in domestic agriculture, thereby creating an environment to take the country forward.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture the exhibition will show how the agricultural achievements of Sri Lanka will make reality the President’s plan of making Sri Lanka a ‘Miracle of Asia.”

The National Farmers’ Week is being held in Vavuniya to promote the area and show the people that this once terrorist occupied land which was ravaged by the war, can now be a prosperous land through the development of agriculture.

A series of events and several discussions are being planned by the Ministry of Agriculture to boost the enthusiasm of farmers taking part in this event.
