The Central Bank said on Thursday a new series of coins representing the districts of the country would be issued this year.
“The designs for the new series of Rs. 10 coins will depict one or more of unique archeological, cultural, economic, environmental, religious or social characteristics of each District. This will also be of interest to collectors of coins,” Central Bank Chief Nivard Cabraal said.
Citing an example, he said the Rs. 10 coin depicting the Colombo District would portray certain city sights and the Colombo Port.
