New Director General at Insurance Board of Sri Lanka

Damayanthi Fernando has been appointed as the new Director General of the Insurance Board of Sri Lanka, the regulator of the insurance industry.
Prior to her appointment as the Director General, Fernando served as the Acting Director General for seven months as well as the Director Legal of the Insurance Board. She has regulatory experience of nearly 16 years at the Insurance Board and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Fernando, a lawyer by profession, took oaths as an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka in December 1996. She also has obtained a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Colombo in 2003.
She is a visiting lecturer of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies for the Diploma in Finance, Banking & Insurance. She has served as a Council Member of the National Council for Road Safety, established under the Ministry of Transport, for a period of three years representing the Insurance Board.
