Nishantha joins Horana Plantations board

Specialist in plantations and SriLankan Airlines Chairman Nishantha Wickremasinghe has joined the Board of Horana Plantations Plc as an Independent Non-Executive Director with effect from 11 December. The appointment of Wickremasinghe into Horana Plantations, a subsidiary of Lanka Ceramics Plc, is now under the control of Dhammika Perera, follows the resignation of L.J. Rubera with effect from 10 December 2013. Wickremasinghe is no stranger to plantations industry, having been the General Manager of Finlay Tea Estates Sri Lanka Plc until early 2012. He currently serves as a Director of Udapussellawa Plantations Plc and Hapugastenne Plantations Plc, both managed by Finlays. He has extensive senior management experience and technical expertise in the plantation sector. His specialised training includes logging and harvesting trees in Germany’s black forest, plant breeding at the Ravi Shankar University in Raipur, India and in slopping agriculture land technology in Mindanao, Philippines. Wickremasinghe was first appointed to SriLankan Airlines Board in January 2006 and subsequently as Executive Director in April 2008. He has been SriLankan Airlines Group Chairman since 2009. Following the latest appointment the Board of Directors of Horana Plantations Plc comprises of Nimal Perera (Chairman), Dhammika Perera (Deputy Chairman/Non Executive Director), M.S.K.P.  Wijesinghe, L.J.A. Fernando, D.A. Wijesekera (Alternate to Fernando), S. Selliah, K.D.G. Gunaratne (alternate to Dhammika Perera), K.D.H. Perera, N.T. Bogahalande (alternate to K.D.H. Perera), A.A. Page and A.M. Pandithage.
