Chathura V. Cabraal, the professional son of Central Bank Governor Nivard Cabraal, has turned down his appointment to the Board of Directors of Hayleys MGT Knitting Mills Plc.

His appointment to the Board was first announced on 3 December and was exclusively reported in the Daily FT the next day.

In a fresh filing to the CSE on Friday, Hayleys MGT said Chathura has conveyed his regrets that he is not in a position to take up the appointment as a Director of the company.

Chathura is a graduate with honours in mechanical engineering with a focus in manufacturing and design from the University of Missouri Science and Technology.

During his Bachelors degree, he paid special attention to control systems engineering, environmental control, and engineering statistics. These topics have been extensively applied in his functions as an engineer in the Energy and Environment Division of Brandix Lanka Ltd. At Brandix, he was closely associated with the analysis of new equipment for factories, renewable energy projects, and sustainability reporting.

Prior to joining Brandix, Chathura gained training as a management trainee with John Keells Hotel Management Services in the Projects and Engineering Department.
