With reference to the page 1 news item yesterday titled ‘Sri Lanka Tourism downgrades 2013 arrival forecast,’ Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority Director General D.S. Jayaweera sent the following clarification:
“I would like to emphasise that the above news item is factually not correct. In my speech, I said that up to 30 June 2013, foreign tourist arrivals amounted to 512,281 and considering using this regression analysis for last five years, foreign tourist arrivals are forecast as 1,280,000 in 2013.”
Editor’s Note: Jayaweera’s remarks at the Hotel Show are on tape and did refer to a figure of 1.1 million and not 1.28 million as stated in his clarification.
