Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) yesterday assured that no tourists were affected by last week’s torrential downpours and landslides.
“There were no cases reported with regards to tourists. We can assure that they are safe,” SLTDA Director General Malraj B. Kiriella told the Daily FT.
Heavy rains pounded Sri Lanka since last weekend, triggering massive landslides and displacing homes for nearly 400,000 which wreaked havoc across the island.
According to the Disaster Management Centre, over 340,000 people have been displaced across the country due to floods and landslides. The landslide death toll has reached 84 while 116 people are still missing. (CdeS)
