The National Labour Council has agreed to increase the salaries of workers in the private sector parallel to the salary increase in the public sector, Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Rajitha Senaratne said yesterday.
He said the Government has called on the National Labour Council to increase the salaries of workers in the private sector parallel to the salary increase in the public sector.
Accordingly, it has been agreed to increase private sector salaries by 15% - 35% according to profits and to increase the minimum salary level to Rs. 10,000.
Senaratne pointed out that although the private sector salary increase is covered by the Wage Board, shops and hotels do not come under the Wage Board. However, the Minister said that their salaries too should be increased by 15%.
