Pakistan to build 220 houses for homeless in Mannar and Nanattan

Pakistan has initiated a housing project to assist Sri Lanka in the rehabilitation of war-affected homeless people of the Northern Province. In this regard, the High Commissioner of Pakistan Maj. Gen. (R) Qasim Qureshi handed over a cheque of $ 1 million to Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa at Temple Trees in the presence of Industries and Commerce Minister Rishad Bathiudeen.

Both ministers said they greatly appreciated the friendly gesture by the Pakistani Government. This donation will be utilised by the Sri Lankan Government to construct 220 houses for homeless people in the villages of Puthukkudiyiruppu, Narikkadu and Moddaikadai in the Mannar District.
The High Commissioner said that Pakistan and Sri Lanka enjoy excellent relations which are being strengthened by high-level visits and the strong support extended by both sides to each other in matters of mutual interests at regional and international forums. The High Commissioner assured that Pakistan would continue to extend all possible support to Sri Lanka in the future as well.
