Police Media Spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana yesterday said that investigations relating to the murder of Editor Lasantha Wickrematunge, death of rugby player Wasim Thajudeen, disappearance of journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda and the Rathupaswala episode have all been handed over to the CID for further investigation. “Concerning the death of politician Baratha Lakshman Premachandra, the investigations have been completed and Court procedure regarding this case in the Supreme Court will commence in the future against all the accused, including Parliamentarian Duminda Silva,” Rohana said. “The CID will also continue its investigations into alleged money laundering by MP Sajin de Vass Gunawardane, former Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage and former Sri Lanka Ports Authority Chairman Priyath Bandu Wickrema,” Rohana added. In Wickrematunge’s case, Rohana said one suspect had died in jail while the other was out on bail. Commenting further on the investigations concerning the mysterious death of rugby player and Havelocks Captain Thajudeen, who died in road accident in Colombo in May 2012, Police Spokesman Rohana said: “Since we have received information proving that perhaps his death could not have happened under natural circumstances, a special Police team commenced a fresh probe into the death recently. However, no evidence of gunshot injuries was found on his body.” According to Police reports on the day of the fatal accident Thajudeen had been driving towards his home in Wellawatte after attending a party when he lost control of the car and crashed into the wall of Shalika Grounds on Park Road. The car exploded within seconds of the crash, turning it into a fireball. Thajudeen was selected for the National Rugby Team in 2000 and was adjudged the Best Rugby Player of the country in 2009. At the time of his death he was 28 years old.
