Political appointees in Sri Lanka Missions abroad called back

Services of 27 Ambassadors, High Commissioners and 26 others end 10 March

All political appointees in the Foreign Service holding positions abroad have been recalled, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Among those recalled are 27 ambassadors or high commissioners and 26 who are below the level of Head of Mission. All have been notified that their tours of duty have ended with effect from 10 March this year and have been instructed to return home. These include relatives of politicians and public officials closely connected to those in the former regime. Political appointees have been recalled from Australia, four from the High Commission in Canberra and two from Sydney.
