President Mahinda Rajapaksa has directed officials to provide further relief to the people affected from adverse weather conditions and floods, under a proper program.
He also pointed out that there will be a shortage of rice in the future, due to the drought in Yala Season this year, and directed officials to maintain sufficient rice stocks to face up to this shortage.
The President made these directions at the Ministerial Sub-Committee on Food Security and Cost of Living Control, held at Temple Trees on Thursday. In addition, President Rajapaksa instructed officials to initiate a special program to enhance the nutritional standards of pregnant mothers as well as infants. He pointed out that there are about 390,000 child births in the country and the nutrition standards of 17% of them are weak.
