President kicks off National War Heroes Commemoration Month

War Heroes Commemoration Month was ceremonially declared by pinning the first Ranaviru (War Hero) Flag onto President Mahinda Rajapaksa at a function held at Temple Trees yesterday.
Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Gotabaya Rajapaksa was also participated at the ceremony.
The period until 2 June 2014 has been declared as the National War Heroes Commemoration month.
A series of events have been scheduled to be held coinciding with the War Hero Commemoration including the Victory Parade. The funds rose through vending the Ranaviru Flags last year were also handed over to Ranaviru Seva Authority by the governors of the each province and those funds will be utilized for the benefit of War Heroes.
In appreciating his Excellency’s service contributing to give a better life to war heroes a plaque was also presented to the President by marking the occasion.
Chief of the Defence Staff, Tri-Forces Commanders, Inspector General of Police and a large gathering of distinguish personnel were present at the event.
