President reiterates no foreign judges

President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday pledged not to allow any foreign judges or organisation to interfere in the internal administration and judiciary of Sri Lanka, rejecting views to the contrary.

Speaking in Panadura President Sirisena said he would not allow any national or international activity which challenges the freedom, independence and the territorial integrity of the country. He pledged to the “Maha Sanga” that he would not hesitate to act for the freedom and the independence of the motherland. 

“It is the policy of the current Government to act according to the advice and guidance of the venerable Maha Sanga in all its activities related to national security and other matters,” he said. He added that he is committed to protecting Sri Lankan society by respecting the proud history of the country as a Buddhist as well as the Head of State. 

Sirisena reassured he would be dedicated to strengthening and nurturing the place given to Buddhism in the Constitution. He also presented certificates and the honorary awards to the ordained Bhikkus at the ceremony held at the Town Hall grounds.
