President Mahinda Rajapaksa will lead a business delegation to Belarus later this month to participate in the Belarus-Sri Lanka business forum organised by the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The Belarus-Sri Lanka business forum and a business to business (B2B) meeting with Sri Lankan businessmen accompanying the President on his visit to Belarus will be held at the National Library of Belarus in Minsk on 26 August 2013. The Chamber said that Sri Lankan companies are interested in establishing business contacts with Belarusian enterprises and organisations operating in a number of areas including agricultural products, tea, spices, fruits and vegetables, ayurvedic goods, tourism and accommodation, freight, logistics, legal, insurance and banking services, rubber goods production and realisation, coir goods realisation, machine building and farm machinery production, and production of leather footwear and textiles.
A 14-member Belarus trade delegation led by the Delhi-based Ambassador of Belarus to Sri Lanka Vitaly Prima recently visited Sri Lanka to explore and enhance trade cooperation with Sri Lanka, especially in the Sri Lanka’s agro-automotive industry.

According to Sri Lanka’s Department of Commerce, bilateral trade between the two countries stood at only US$ 15 million in 2012.
The delegation has expressed interest in establishing vehicle assembly lines in Sri Lanka to serve Asian markets and Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen has invited Belarus to explore the investment opportunities at the island’s 26 industrial zones.
