President to inaugurate World’s Best e-Content Winners’ Congress 2013

President Mahinda Raja-paksa will inaugurate the World Summit Award (WSA)/the World’s Best e-Content Winners’ Congress 2013 in Colombo next week. The ICT Agency said President accepted the invitation in view of the inherent potency of WSA to bring huge benefits to the country through ICT enabled development. The inauguration ceremony will take place at the Presidential Secretariat on 23 October. As quite apt, it will be held under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa who has led the country’s comprehensive ICT Development Program ‘e-Sri Lanka’ to its current astounding success. “WSA will be a rare opportunity for Sri Lanka to help develop the ICT sector and the country by the creative use of ICT. It will also be a platform for those committed to make today’s information society more inclusive,” Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) CEO Reshan Dewapura said. The World Summit Award (WSA) is an international initiative for recognising and promoting the world’s best e-Content including the most innovative ICT applications. WSA 2013 will be the next mega event scheduled for October this year, prior to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in November 2013. This year’s WSA will have eight categories: e-Government and Open Data, e-Health and Environment, e-Learning and Science, e-Entertainment and Games, e-Culture and Tourism, e-Media and Journalism, e-Business and Commerce, and e-Inclusion and Empowerment. Hosted by ICTA this month, WSA 2013 will consist of three components: inauguration, conference and award presentation. The WSA conference will be from 24 to 26 October at The Kingsbury Hotel Colombo while the award gala will be at Mt. Lavinia beach on the evening of 26 October. This UN-based WSA Global Conference will feature 40 outstanding application developers, more than 60 high-profile speakers and attract up to 175 international delegates.
