President Mahinda Rajapaksa will present the country’s next ICT strategy to world-renowned ICT visionaries and content developers when inaugurating the WSA 2013 today (23) at the Presidential Secretariat. The President will officially present this new strategy, the ‘SMART Sri Lanka’ initiative, during his keynote address at the World Summit Award 2013 this evening. It is only apt that this announcement of great national importance is made by President Rajapaksa himself. The President’s tireless and committed and far-sighted leadership has been pivotal in the successful implementation of the World Bank funded e-Sri Lanka Development Program. “The Cabinet of Ministers recently endorsed this comprehensive ICT Development initiative proposed by the President,” Information and Communication Technology of Sri Lanka (ICTA) Chairman, Senior Advisor to the President and Peradeniya University Chancellor Professor P. W. Epasinghe said. “The President is very keen on ICT development in the country and wants to share the country’s next ICT strategy with distinguished national and international audience,” the ICTA Chairman added. President Rajapaksa recently accepted the invitation to grace the World Summit Award (WSA), the World’s Best e-Content Winners’ Congress. The President accepted the invitation in view of the inherent potency of WSA to bring huge benefits to the country through ICT enabled development. The UN-based WSA Global Conference will feature 40 outstanding ICT application developers, more than 60 high-profile speakers and attract up to 175 international delegates.
