Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe shakes hands with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe met United Nations Secretary- General Antonio Guterres this week. Appreciating the Premier’s participation in the historical Ocean Summit, Guterres said that Sri Lanka and Portugal have shared close ties throughout their history. The Prime Minister informed the Secretary-General - who has visited Sri Lanka in the past as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees - that the country was working towards reconciliation through truth-seeking and accountability mechanisms while actively working to prevent the reoccurrence of violence. He added that Sri Lanka was working on constitutional reforms, its justice system and other factors that influence reconciliation.
