Private buses to strike on 1 Dec.

All Ceylon Private Bus Owners Association (ACPBOA) Secretary Anjana Priyanjith said that an island-wide bus strike would be launched on 1 December midnight against the increase of the minimum traffic fine to Rs. 25,000.

However, Private Bus Owners Association President Gemunu Wijeratne denied any involvement in the strike.

Speaking to Daily FT he said that although the ACPBOA had decided to launch the strike his organisation had taken no such decision.

“We find no issue with the increase of the fine. We don’t speed, we don’t engage in drunk driving, so we have no issue,” he said, adding that they did not support the strike.
