The main opposition United National Party (UNP) yesterday called on the Government to increase salaries of the working masses due to the increase in prices.
UNP and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe told the media that the Government should increase salaries of public sector employees as well as of other employees.
He observed that people in the country had been burdened with rising prices since the beginning of this year.
The UNP, according to Wickremesinghe, would call for a salary hike to the working masses to coincide with the May Day.
He noted that the Government needed to address the issues faced by the working masses as soon as possible and called on the Government to provide relief for other sectors in the country like agriculture and fisheries.
