The Government’s use of the LTTE’s former chief weapons procurer for political activity will further endanger Sri Lanka’s ties with India where he is a wanted man, Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe warned yesterday. Addressing the crowd at a temple function in Colombo yesterday, the UNP Leader said that the Government was using Kumaran Pathmanathan alias KP in its election campaign in the north. “The Government is using KP who attacked the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy. He is being used for election campaigns and is provided special security. We will have issues if we seek assistance of a terrorist,” he warned. Wickremesinghe said KP was wanted in India on charges of killing Indian Premier Rajiv Gandhi. “When we take that same man onto an election platform of course that would damage our ties with India,” he said.
