President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday met Foreign Affairs Minister Ravi Karunanayake following a Cabinet meeting, sources revealed.

The former Finance Minister, who is under pressure to resign from his current ministerial post over his alleged involvement in the controversial bond transaction, failed to attend the weekly Cabinet meeting yesterday.  Members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party in the coalition Government also met with the Prime Minister after the Cabinet meeting yesterday to discuss Karunanayake’s actions, a SLFP Minister told Daily FT.

“We have told the Prime Minister to make a decision on Karunanayake’s role in the Government soon. We were told by the PM that he has received similar representations even within the UNP and other parties as well,” the Minister said.

Sources also said the PM is expected to make a decision on the matter today.
