The Colombo District Court restrained the Ceylon Bank Employees Union from holding meetings to appoint new members to the union. The Trade Union was further ordered to hold a Central Committee meeting to appoint a secretary to the union.
Colombo District Court Judge G.A. Dhammika Ganepola issued this restraining order on the Trade Union on considering the application documents and the submissions made by Counsel Faizer Musthafa, who appeared with Navoda Wijeratne, Tharaka Nanyakkara and Isuru Balapatabandi instructed by Punya Jayathilaka for the petitioners People’s Bank Trade Union and 257 Central Committee members of the union.
The Counsel submitted that the bank’s union was getting ready to hold a general meeting to appoint new members to the union’s Executive Committee. The Counsel moved to restrain the Trade Union from holding any meeting to appoint members to the Executive Committee until a new secretary is appointed in alternative to the present Secretary Channa Dissananayake by a Central Committee meeting.
The petition was filed by the People’s Bank branch of the union together with 257 Central Committee members of the union.
