Reuters has won the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) award for Editorial Excellence as well as seven Honorable Mentions – more wins than any other organisation nominated at what is considered the biggest editorial awards event in the region.

Members of the Asia team across text, pictures and graphics picked up their awards at the ceremony in Hong Kong last night, at which Reuters had 12 finalists in 10 categories, far surpassing the number of finalists from previous years.

Reuters won The Scoop Award for Editorial Excellence and the judges’ comments reflect the high level of competition across all of the SOPA categories. The judges in their comments said: “Lights-out, clearly the best scoop among some very good and tough scoops. Dogged reporting, an amazing connecting of the dots, this scoop exposed severe flaws in our global banking system from a small transaction in an obscure part of the world.”

Shihar Aneez of Sri Lanka won the Scoop Award for The Bangladesh Bank Heist along with Serajul Quadir, Tom Bergin, Nathan Layne, Krishna N. Das and Jonathon Spicer.
