Around Rs. 6 million has been stolen from a state bank in Moneragala by thieves who broke open its Automated Teller Machine (ATM), the Police said.
According to the Police Media Unit, the robbery was committed on Friday (20) from an ATM belonging to a state bank located in Medagama, Moneragala.
A cleaning employee who had visited the ATM machine today noticed the damage caused to it and alerted officials.
It has been reported that two robbers had managed to break into the ATM by cutting the bank’s CCTV system. They had taken away the bank’s CCTV recording along with the money. However, a nearby shop owner’s CCTV camera has recorded the incident and he is assisting the Police.
The Medagama Police are conducting investigations.
