Sajin summoned to Bribery Commission

United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) MP Sajin de Vass Gunawardena was yesterday summoned to the Bribery Commission. Vass Gunawardena was summoned to the Bribery Commission to record a statement on his assets and liabilities, though he failed to show up claiming that he was unwell. His wife was also questioned by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) recently under money laundering allegations against Sajin Vass Gunawardena.

CID arrests Sarana Gunawardane

Former Deputy Minister of Petroleum Industries Sarana Gunawardena was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) yesterday on charges of financial fraud. Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara told media that Gunawardane appeared before the CID office last morning after being summoned to the CID to record a statement in connection with a complaint against him. He was placed under arrest for further investigations. According to media reports, the complaint filed against the UFPA Parliamentarian charges him with financial fraud amounting to Rs. 9.6 million and criminal breach of trust.
