Sajin Vaas denies assaulting Chris Nonis

External Affairs Ministry Monitoring MP Sajin de Vass Gunawardena has denied assaulting Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to the UK Dr Chris Nonis.

Sajin had told a leading television station that he only had an argument with Dr Chris Nonis. This was in response to the TV channel’s original story that Dr. Nonis had confirmed his resignation. MP Vass Gunawardena was speaking from the Vatican where he is accompanying Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa on his visit to meet the Pope. He further told the TV channel that First Secretary to the Ministry of External Affairs and the Sri Lankan Ambassador to the United States were also present at the during the said incident. The MP said that the decision to resign taken by Dr. Nonis is a personal decision, and Dr. Nonis could seek legal redress if the need arises. The MP said he has nothing to hide and he would reveal what happened once he is back from Rome.
