A Singapore-based IT hardware firm has decided to make Sri Lanka its headquarters, in addition to exploring prospects to list on the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE).

The Lankan entity is titled Tomahawk Holdings Ltd., an investment holding company with prime objectives being the advancement of the Tomahawk Desktop operating system towards the third commercial desktop operating system in the world and focus on investments in infrastructure development in Sri Lanka in the country’s rapid progress towards a developed nation.

“New technologies and employment opportunities will be introduced to the country, which has been dragged through 30 years of war and badly needs to recover,” the company added.

After more than five years of research and development, the company said the Tomahawk Desktop operating system was now ready to be launched commercially.

The Tomahawk Holdings product range includes products from operating systems for desktop, servers and mobile devices to a YouTube-style video website and data centre products powered by its own Tomahawk Server operating system.

Managing Director Sagara Wijetunga said that the business model adopted by Google would be the path the company would follow, offering operating systems for free for both personal and corporates users.

Director Lim Hen Ling said the Tomahawk Desktop operating system was known to be used in Australia, Austria, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine, United Kingdom and the United States of America.

Tomahawk Holdings will also be diversified into high growth business ventures, especially in vital infrastructure and not just IT alone.

With this strategic move in setting up in Sri Lanka, the company intends to make significant returns from its advertisements-related products and reward its investors handsomely.

“This is also an opportunity for Sri Lanka’s talent pool in IT to make its mark in the world stage in high-tech consumer software such as operating systems for desktop and mobile devices,” Tomahawk said.

“Tomahawk Holdings Limited intends to raise substantial capital in international markets and also plans to list on a stock exchange in 2013; it could be CSE, NASDAQ or dual listing,” Director Lim said.
