SEC gets new Director Investigations

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has appointed career lawyer Chinthaka Mendis as its new Director Investigations.

Mendis has been a practicing lawyer for nearly two decades with specialisation in international law. He was the Senior Project Manager Judicial Training at the USAID prior to taking up the new post at the SEC. He filled the vacancy created following the promotion of long-standing Director Investigation and the senior most officer at SEC Dhammika Perera as the Deputy Director General.

The SEC is also expected to shortly announce a new Director General, applications for which post were called last month.

Last week, SEC also advertised for applicants for a new position Director External Relations and Research as well as Director Capital Market Education and Training.

The latter is because Director General Prof. Hareendra Dissabandara who is also the Director CMET moving out of SEC from 27 May.

Mendis first graduated with Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Colombo and was admitted to the Bar as an Attorney at Law in December 1996 after schooling at Sri Lanka Law College. He had extensive practice in the fields of criminal and commercial litigation for six years before joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka. Subsequently he obtained the Master of Laws in International Law and Law of International Organizations from Rijks University of Groningen, The Netherlands.

He also worked at the Legal Adviser’s Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs focusing on Public International Law issues.
