High net worth individual investor Dr. T. Senthilverl on Tuesday bought a 7.25% stake in world famous Dilmah brand owning company Ceylon Tea Services for Rs. 943 million.
The block amounting to 1.45 million shares had been bought at Rs. 650 each, about 18.7% or Rs. 150 lower than CTS previous close. Around 100 shares traded at a higher price of Rs. 756 each. The seller was BBH Genesis Smaller Companies Fund. Deal on CTS accounted for the highest turnover on Tuesday.
CTC is the second major investment in the plantation sector by Dr. Senthilverl after he picked up a 13.5% stake amounting to 11.3 million shares at Rs. 20.50 each in Bogawantalawa Plantation in a deal worth Rs. 231.6 million. He is one of the most active investors in the Colombo Bourse. Last week he sold 16% stake in Kelani Tyres whilst recently he had invested Rs. 500 million in the share issue of The Finance Ltd., after which he was appointed to the new Board of Directors by the Central Bank.
