Severe weather advisory maintained

The Department of Meteorology has issued a severe weather advisory for the next 24 hours.

The advisory said that another rain spell is expected in the south-western parts together with windy conditions over Sri Lanka and neighbouring sea areas.

Showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern Provinces and in the Puttalam and Kurunegala Districts.

South western monsoonal winds will be strengthening at times over the island, especially along the western slopes of the central hills.

Sea conditions: Naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant as deep and shallow sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Colombo and Galle will be rough and dangerous with strong south-westerly winds up to 70kmp/hr.
