The Sri Lanka Shippers’ Council (SLSC) yesterday expressed concern over the sudden resignation of Customs Chief Jagath P. Wijeweera.
“It is with great regret that we have noted the sudden resignation of the Director General of Sri Lanka Customs,” SLSC said in a statement. It said Wijeweera has been one of the few Directors General of the Customs who initiated a hands-on approach in solving issues faced by importers and exporters spontaneously.
He was also spearheading the Customs initiatives on e-commerce and rendered an enormous service by providing leadership to his team and adopting a balanced approach with all stakeholders.
“We appreciate the efforts of Wijeweera and acknowledge his straightforwardness, honesty and transparency when dealing with the Sri Lanka Shippers’ Council and its associate members. We urge the authorities to ensure the good work commenced by the Customs will continue in order the trade and related services would benefit,” SLSC statement added.
