Singapore firm gets $ 30.4 m contract for sewer pipe rehabilitation

Singapore firm Ley Choon Group Holdings has won a $ 30.4 million (S$ 38.2 million) to rehabilitate sewer lines in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo.
The Singapore-listed provider of underground utilities construction and road works on Tuesday said it will restore 10km of sewer lines and assess 125km more in Sri Lanka.
The Pipes and Roads Segment of the company specialises in underground utilities infrastructure construction and maintenance, and sewer pipeline rehabilitation.
The Government has received a $ 116.63 million loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to rehabilitate around 10 kilometres of sewer lines in the greater Colombo area.
The Greater Colombo Waste Water Management Project, funded by the ADB will rehabilitate selected 10 km of sewer lines and assess another125 km of sewer lines within the Colombo Municipal Council area.
While the capital city is rapidly expanding its urban area, the existing public sewerage infrastructure is limited in coverage and old. Frequent blockages in the system cause flooding in low-lying area and uncontrolled overflow gives serious concerns to the environment and public health, authorities explain.
The project is expected to be completed in two and a half years.
