The people of Sri Lanka have once again selected Singer as the best brand in the country. Singer had a clear run at the SLIM-Nielsen People’s Awards organised by Sri Lanka’s national body of marketing, the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM), at a ceremony held on 26 February. Singer won in all three of the categories in which it was nominated – Brand of the Year, Consumer Durable Brand of the Year and Youth Brand of the Year. Singer has been winning the Brand of the Year Award since the inception of the SLIM-Nielsen People’s Awards nine years ago. The SLIM-Nielsen People’s Awards is a no-strings-attached awards presentation. The verdict comes straight from the people who are experiencing Sri Lankan products and services. Sri Lankans chose Singer as the most outstanding brand in all the related categories because Singer is the brand that is closest to the people. Many Sri Lankans depend on Singer to bring them the widest choice of brands and consumer durable products across the country through over 410 branches and up to 1,000 dealers. For 166 years and counting, the people have sort after Singer to unburden them through easy payment options, hire-purchase schemes and expert after-sales service island wide. “Given the rich relationships Singer has built with Sri Lankans through its products and services, the enduring strength and popularity of its brand comes as little surprise. These bonds are not limited to merely commercial ones. Singer is inextricably sewn into the fabric of Sri Lankan life through the company’s involvement in social responsibility projects,” said Singer CEO Asoka Pieris, upon receiving the SLIM-Nielsen People’s Awards. Singer’s strength in customer relations is a major reason for its brand power, with Singer taking a holistic approach to its customer relations where customer satisfaction is the key criterion. As a further testament to Singer’s commitment to their customers, the company won the ‘Category Award for Customer Relations’ at the Best Corporate Citizens Awards organised by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. Singer was also placed among the 10 Best Corporate Citizens in Sri Lanka. A large cross section of people representing all the districts in Sri Lanka took part in this year’s survey that ran for a period of five months. Rather than companies applying for the SLIM-Nielsen People’s Awards, the people themselves nominate their favourite brands and companies. The SLIM-Nielsen People’s Awards is backed by Nielsen, the largest research company in Sri Lanka and WatchBuilder standards, a quality control process unique to the global Nielsen Company. Together they assure the accuracy and clarity of the survey and the answers given by the respondents. This year’s research boasts of a greater representation of people in Sri Lanka.
