Over 120 of the region’s leading socioeconomic experts will gather in Colombo in the first week of September at the sixth South Asia Economic Summit (SAES) organised by Sri Lanka’s apex economic policy think tank, the Institute of Policy Studies of Sri Lanka (IPS). The summit, which was inaugurated in 2008 in Colombo, is a platform for dialogue and debate on socioeconomic challenges faced by the eight-nation region, currently one of the fastest growing regions in the world. Scheduled to take place from 2 to 4 September at the Cinnamon Grand, Colombo, the sixth SAES will bring together delegates from South Asia and beyond, including leading thinkers from government, academia, private sector and civil society organisations. Under the main theme ‘Towards a Stronger, Dynamic and Inclusive South Asia’, this year’s summit will focus on the idea that stronger growth in South Asia depends not only on collective regional action, but equally on efforts made by South Asian countries to address the constraints to growth and unleash inclusive growth opportunities at a country level. This year’s summit is uniquely structured along four themes, what is being called ‘The Big Four’ – ‘Harnessing Human Capital Potential’, ‘Tackling Environmental Challenges and Climate Change’, ‘Managing Intra-country Growth Disparities’ and ‘Building Competitiveness of the Private Sector’. The event is a unique opportunity for Sri Lankan researchers, practitioners, public officials and private sector professionals to understand strategic economic growth opportunities and challenges facing countries in the region, through expert insights in four plenary sessions and 12 parallel sessions. The summit is open for registration, with a full summit pass (all sessions, three days – Rs. 12,000) or a day pass (Rs. 4,500). Contact Wendy on [email protected] or 112143100 to register.
