India and Sri Lanka have agreed to release all detained fishermen starting today, according to Fisheries Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne.
The agreement follows talks held between officials of the two countries yesterday in New Delhi regarding the issue of fishermen poaching in each other’s territorial waters.
A significant number of fishermen from both countries have been taken into custody in recent weeks following heightened tensions regarding poaching.
