By Shabiya Ali Ahlam In an industry first, Sri Lanka Insurance yesterday entered into a partnership with US-based Assist America to provide its Motor Plus customers global emergency assistance services. Branded ‘Sri Lanka Insurance Motor Plus Global Emergency Assistance Services,’ the new product will be offered to all the comprehensive Motor Plus customers at a nominal annual fee of Rs. 230. To qualify for the scheme, Motor Plus clients need to undertake a minimum travel of 100km away from their permanent residence for a maximum of 90 days. The service accommodates overseas travel as well. While necessary assistance will be provided on producing the Sri Lanka Insurance Motor Plus card, the scheme includes the arrangement of medical consultation, evaluation and referrals, hospital admission assistance, medical monitoring and prescription assistance, compassionate visit, care of minor children, interpreter and legal assistance, lost luggage and documentation assistance, pre-trip information service, and return of mortal remains in case of unfortunate incidents. At the launch event that was graced by senior officials from both the companies, Sri Lanka Insurance CEO Deepthi Lokuarachchi said that with the launch of its newest product the company continues to keep up its name as an “undisputed market leader” in the field of motor insurance. “We know how competitive the market is in the area of motor insurance and companies are striving for market share. Here the differentiation we have offered is that we have global services and are not confining ourselves to services within Sri Lanka alone. As a leading insurance company that sets trends in the market, we have taken yet another step to service our policy holders by bringing a great value addition to our motor product,” said Lokuarachchi. Elaborating on the value addition, Assist America General Manager South East Asia Ron Estrella assured that the service offered under the scheme would include arrangement of all processes and procedures needed to take the person insured from the point where they experience an emergency till they reach a facility. The service will be extended through its worldwide located, 24 hour operation centres staffed by experienced, knowledgeable, multilingual emergency certified medical and assistance professionals. “With Assist America we focus on being able to differentiate an insurance program versus its competition by making sure that the value added services attached by these products are going beyond what the competition can offer,” he said, addressing the media at the launch event. Sri Lanka Insurance enjoys a market share of 30% in the motor insurance segment and accounts for the most experienced technical knowledgebase in the country.
