By Jayashika Padmasiri The Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) yesterday criticised the statement made by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on the controversial Treasury Bond fiasco, claiming it was unacceptable since it did not answer any of the vital questions related to the scandal. SLFP Parliamentarian Lakshman Yapa Abeywardene commenting at a press conference held in Colombo yesterday said that Wickremesinghe spoke about irrelevant and unrelated matters during his statement in Parliament concerning the ‘bond fiasco’ while avoiding the crucial questions relating to the subject. “We want the authorities to conduct a transparent investigation regarding this matter and to appoint a proper committee to investigate this issue as the committee consisting of lawyers that the authorities have appointed is unethical. The Central Bank Governor should resign. Nevertheless, none of those things are happening. We will only support the good things of the ‘Yahapalana Government,’ but we cannot help and support their financial frauds,” he said. SLFP... Speaking about the conduct of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) in relation to the Central Bank bond fiasco, Abeywardene said that the SLFP was surprised by the silence of the JVP in this regard, while claiming that it appeared as if the Government and the JVP were playing a friendly match. “Though SLFP Parliamentarian Mahinda Amaraweera made a complaint against Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran, so far the authorities have not even prohibited Mahendran from leaving the country or impounded his passport. Therefore, that is why we are urging the authorities to take action and remove Mahendran from the Central Bank,” Abeywardene said. At the press conference, he also spoke about the development projects that have been stopped by the Government and noted that the economy of the country was collapsing as a result of these actions. He claimed that many people had lost their jobs under the ‘Yahapalana Government’ and that the people had not received anything that they expected from this Government.
