Sri Lanka Economic Summit 2015 starts today with PM in attendance

  • President to attend summit’s closing session
  • Over 450 participants to attend, creating record

The two-day Sri Lanka Economic Summit 2015, organised by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, will kick off today at 9.00 a.m. in Colombo with eight sessions, where various topics will come under discussion in relation to the summit’s theme of ‘Towards Exports of US$ 50 billion’.  

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will be the Chief Guest at the ceremonial inauguration today whilst President Maithripala01-3 Sirisena will address the summit’s closing session tomorrow late afternoon.

Over 450 business leaders and corporate executives and professionals will attend the Summit at the Cinnamon Grand.

The planned eight sessions will focus on areas such as ‘National Vision: Policy Implementation and Perspective,’ ‘A New Global Economic Strategy for Sri Lanka’, ‘Driving Exports – Use of Social Media and Technology’, ‘Challenges In and Opportunities For Financing of Exports’, ‘Championing Value Addition in Agri Exports’, ‘Sustainability Led Export Growth’, ‘Going Up the Value Chain – Export of Knowledge Services’ and will conclude with a CEO’s forum.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghewill deliver the keynote addressat the inaugural session, while Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake and Minister of Foreign AffairsMangala Samaraweera will join in as members of the panel discussion, following the Prime Minister’s speech. Suresh Shah, former Chairman of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, will moderate the panel discussion.

Samanatha Ranatunga, Chairman of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, will deliver the welcome address of the Sri Lanka Economic Summit.

President Maithripala Sirisena will address the participants at the summit’s closing session, while closing remarks will be made by Rajendra Theagarajah, Vice Chairman of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.

The Sri Lanka Economic Summit 2015, which commenced 16 years ago, is the flagship event of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and focuses on discussing the most critical issues of the economy.
