Sri Lanka, which did not qualify to make it to the Future Brands Country Brand Index 2011-2012 due to the lack of awareness and familiarity among the global community about the country, has made a surprise appearance in the 2013 Country Brand Index at number 67.

This was revealed by Future Brands South East Asia CEO Sarah Reiter who flew down from Singapore to present the study at the launch of the Centre for Research and Sustainability Studies in Tourism (CRST).

The report is not yet globally launched but wil be out in February.

She noted that data from a broad citizen perspective revealed that the country’s position has changed over the last year or so.

The 2013 index has been prepared under data collected through broad research this year.

Expressing delight over the marked improvement, Reiter also donated the data presented yesterday to the new tourism think tank, which has an estimated commercial value of US$ 80,000, “to help get things started”.

“I will also commit the resources of my team for the next year to help make evidence-based data and hope you have a specific plan and tactical set of measurements to get what you need,” Reiter said.

Future Brands is a global branding company which aims at transforming cultures on a commercial and nation branding platform. Future Brands was also the brains behind branding what is known as the largest event on the planet, London Olympics 2012.
